Camembert 3 Ways – Blogmas Day 23

I know this blog post is a bit late for me, but I actually just made this recipe tonight for my family and it was a hit!

I get it, we all want to eat healthy for the new year, but hey, it’s the holidays and we want to enjoy some yummy cheese boards!  I know this Blogmas post is a bit last minute to make for Christmas, but you can save this recipe for any New Year’s Eve gathering plans you have!

Camembert Topped With Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole camembert with wooden box
  • 3 tablespoons of cranberry sauce

Recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F
  2. Remove camembert from all plastic packaging and place it back in the bottom half of the wooden box it came in.  Pierce the top of the cheese with a knife several times, but not going all the way through.
  3. Spoon cranberry sauce over top and cover cheese loosely with foil.
  4. Place cheese (still in the box, wrapped in foil), on a baking tray and bake it in the oven for 12 minutes.  Then remove foil and place back into the oven for 3-5 minutes until cheese has melted and cranberry sauce is bubbly.  Serve hot with crostinis or baguette.

Camembert with Rosemary and Garlic

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole camembert with wooden box
  • 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced (or 1 teaspoon of garlic…or more if you really like garlic like me!)
  • Leaves from 1 big sprig of rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F
  2. Remove camembert from all plastic packaging and place it back in the bottom half of the wooden box it came in.  Pierce the top of the cheese with a knife several times, but not going all the way through.
  3. Carefully wedge garlic slices and rosemary leaves into each pierce mark in the cheese.  Pressing them in with your fingertips.  Drizzle olive oil on top.
  4. Place the cheese in its box on a baking tray and bake it in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese has melted.  Serve hot with crostinis, baguette, or vegetables like carrots and celery.

Camembert Wrapped with Puff Pastry

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry
  • Flour for dusting
  • 1 whole camembert
  • 1 egg, beaten

Recipe:

  1. Take sheet pastry out of fridge 20 minutes before you start.  Preheat oven to 400 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Dust work surface with flour and lay puff pastry sheet on top.  Cut out two circles of pastry that are about 1 inch larger than the cheese in diameter.  Also cut out two long 1 inch wide strips.
  3. Remove camembert from all packaging, including box. Place cheese on one of the rounds and tuck the edges of pastry up the sides of the cheese. Place the second circle of pastry on top of the cheese and tuck edges down around the sides.
  4. Wrap long pastry strip around the edge. Tie other strip into a bow or in a pie type pattern like I did with this one and place on top.
  5. Brush and seal the pastry dough with egg.
  6. Place camembert on lined baking sheet and put in oven for 25 minutes or until pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Serve hot with crostinis, baguette, veggies or just on its own!

Enjoy!
