2024 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year!

I know there’s a stigma around New Year’s Resolutions.  They can seem temporary, and once January is over, they have a tendency to disappear.  Last year, my first blog post was just a list of things I wanted to accomplish over the course of the year and I did actually complete most of them.  However, I wanted to switch it up this year.  This year I gave myself three goals that I consider my priority and my focus for this year, and then some “mini goals” that I know I will most likely accomplish.  The difference between last year’s goals and this year’s goals is that last year, I put the same weight into all of the goals (for example, reading at least 17 books had the same weight as disconnecting from my phone and focusing on my health), while this year, I’m putting more focus towards the Big 3.

So, today I’ve listed a few of my resolutions, with the top three being considered my “main goals” and the ones following being my “mini goals.”  Feel free to use these as inspiration for your own goals for the year!

  1. Live an overall healthier lifestyle

There was a point last year where I was eating takeout nearly everyday.  I would veg out on the couch late into the night, watch trash TV and just eat junk.  In the last quarter of 2023, I began working out 3-5 days a week, only allowed myself to eat out twice a week, and started drinking more water.  I want to continue that trend into the new year.  I’m more productive in the mornings before work so I’m going to focus on getting to bed no later than 10 p.m. on the weekdays.  This way, when I get up around 6 a.m. I have time to not only get ready for the day, but also incorporate healthy habits that I enjoy like reading, journaling and yoga.   Another thing that I started in 2023 that I plan on continuing is filling up my stainless steel water bottle before bed, setting it at my bedside, and drinking it first thing in the morning.  I have a tendency to not drink water until noon, so this small habit reminds me to hydrate before I caffeinate and just increases my water intake for the day.
  2. Start a podcast and maintain my other creative pursuits…like this blog!

There are so many things I want to accomplish in my lifetime and creativity is a huge value of mine.  There’s no better time to start these creative goals and pursuits of mine than now when I’m in my 20s and have the time to dedicate towards them.  With that said…you can expect a podcast from me within the next few months! I’ll also be posting on here bi-weekly on Tuesdays at noon (last year it was Fridays) and I have plans for blogmas already, but we’ll have to wait and see if it will be a full 25 days depending on my schedule.
  3. Pay off any debts, save money and invest wisely

Unfortunately, in 2023, I racked up some credit card due to having a bunch of unexpected car troubles.  Luckily, I paid it all off by the end of the year, but I still have college loans to pay off and a savings account to build back up. I bought a Jeep in October of 2022, but there were so many failures and mechanic visits that I’ve decided to sell it and get a lease, or save up for something new.  Bye, bye Jeep.  Hello savings!
  4. Read!

This is always a goal of mine that I typically accomplish.  In 2023 my goal was to read at least 17 books which I completed, so this year, why not add on another book to that goal and make it 18.  If you want some recommendations, here are my go-to comfort reads!  Also…my 2024 reading list may just be the subject of my next blog post.
  5. Keep my work space clean and organized

When I sign off for the day (I work remotely), I have a tendency to just get up from my desk and leave it a total mess for me to be stressed about the next morning.  This year I’m going to make it a point to clean up my desk at the end of the work day so I can start the next day with a clear desk and a clear mind.  I really admire YouTubers like Siena Mirabella who always gives me a cleaning itch, so I will be taking notes.  Also, I love saving photos of inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest.
  6. Plan our wedding, mini moon and honeymoon

Patrick and I are getting married in August of this year and luckily we’ve done most of the planning and have gotten all our vendors booked.  However, there is still more to get done before the big day, as well as planning our mini moon (just a small weekend trip somewhere in the states after the wedding) and a bigger honeymoon for 2025…still not sure where it will be!  I’ll keep you posted though. 🙂
  7. Stay on top of my skincare routine

I’m not even going to fool myself here.  Most nights in 2023 I would wash off my makeup and be done, and on days I didn’t wear makeup, I’d rarely wash my face.  This year I’m going to focus on doing my skincare routine daily!
  8. Maintain my relationships and make new ones

The past few years living in PA, I’ve made one huge relationship and that’s the one I have with my fiancé, Patrick.  Although I have some work friends, I’d like to get out there and meet new people in State College and make some friends.  No one tells you how hard it is to make friends after college!  This year, I’d like to discover new spots in State College and hopefully start some new friendships as well as maintain the relationships I already have with family and friends.

That’s all for now!  Thank you for taking the time to read my goals and feel free to leave yours in the comments below! We’ve got this 😀
